San Diego, California Emergency Food Assistance Programs

The Emergency Food Assistance Program (EFAP) is a federal program that provides monthly emergency and supplemental food packages to individuals and families who meet the income guidelines (see below) set by the federal government.

The San Diego Food Bank administers the program and distributes USDA provided food to over 69,000 individuals at 91 distribution sites every month throughout San Diego County. Participants on the Emergency Food Assistance Program receive a bag of food once a month at a local distribution site in their area.

HOW TO SIGN UP:

In order to register, applicants can visit an EFAP food distribution site in their area. At the distribution site, applicants must state their household income; give their name and address; and state the number of people living in their household. Documentation is not required to register for the program.

After signing up, new participants will be entitled to receive food bags from an EFAP distribution site within their zip code on the allocated food distribution day every month.

Please note, due to federal restrictions, all food distribution sites will only be able to provide emergency food packages to a household, outside of the set monthly distributions, three times per year. Households who have reached their maximum emergency food allocation for the year should contact the SDFB on 1-866-350-FOOD (3663)

Applicants who meet the income guidelines will be accepted into the program and will be given the address of their local distribution site based on their household’s zip code.

About the Idaho Food Stamp Program

The Idaho Food Stamp Program helps low-income families buy the food they need in order to stay healthy. An eligible family receives an Idaho Quest Card, which is used in card scanners at the grocery store. The card uses money from a Food Stamp account set up for the eligible family to pay for food items.

APPLY FOR FOOD ASSISTANCE
You can apply for food assistance with just your name, address, and signature on our Application for Assistance. This gets you started, but we still need you to provide the rest of the information on the application before we can determine if you’re eligible to receive food assistance.

IMMEDIATE FOOD ASSISTANCE IS AVAILABLE
If you need food assistance immediately, and are eligible, we can provide benefits within seven days. You must meet certain criteria in order to qualify for the expedited services.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
In order to receive food assistance, certain eligibility requirements must be met in areas such as, citizenship/immigration status, income, resources, work requirements, and other areas based on your household's circumstances. To find out whether you could be eligible for Food Stamps, check out this pre-screening tool (use only as a guide, not as a final determination). Regardless of the results of the tool, we encourage you to come in to our offices. A quick conversation will help you find out whether you may be eligible.

FOOD STAMP AMOUNT
